Except for feature-length animation, the musical has gone the way of the dinosaur. The Walt Disney company took a stab at reviving the live-action musical in 1992 with Newsies, a throwback picture with a curious subject. In 1899, the pint-sized newsboys delivering the New York papers go on strike against the unfair practices of news magnates Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst. The production is heavy on kiddie humor, although Christian Bale (the child star of Spielberg's Empire of the Sun) is charismatic as one of the older leaders of the revolt. The adult stars don't fare as well, with Robert Duvall doddering around as Pulitzer and Ann-Margret and Bill Pullman doing decorative duty. The film was not well received when first released, but hindsight reveals its charm (and allowed the young target audience to catch up with the picture on video). The first-time director is Kenny Ortega, the choreographer of Dirty Dancing, who brings plenty of energy to the action. --Robert Horton

Newsies (Collector's Edition) Review

Based upon actual events (the bonus material includes a short featurette about the newsies' strike), this is a story about how the powerless find power and the voiceless a voice. In 1899, the streets of New York City swarm with "newsies"--boys aged about 10 up who serve as the distribution network for the city's half-dozen or so major newspapers in a day before home delivery and newsstands. Some are orphans, some runaways, some from poor or working-class, often immigrant, families where everybody needs to help out or where a breadwinner has been disabled. When Joseph Pulitzer (Robert Duvall), publisher of the New York World, decides to raise the wholesale price of the paper from 50c. per hundred to 60c., they're outraged; as one of them, Kid Blink (Trey Parker), complains, "Bad enough we gotta eat the ones we don't sell, now they up the price on us?!" But the newsies are lucky: they find a leader--17-year-old Jack Kelly (Christian Bale), who's known as "Cowboy" because he dreams of going to live in Santa Fe someday. With the advice of David Jacobs (David Moscow) and the "cute appeal" of his little brother Les (Luke Edwards), Jack soon welds the newsies into an impromptu union and calls a strike. A sympathetic reporter from a rival paper, Bryan Denton (Bill Pullman), becomes their advocate, and a vaudeville performer (Ann-Margret) offers the hall she owns for a rally. But Pulitzer and his powerful counterpart William Randolph Hearst have money, political power (like Judge "Movealong" Monahan (William Boyett) and Snyder (Kevin Tighe), the warden of the juvenile prison known as "The Refuge"), and muscle (like the Delancey brothers, Oscar (Shon Greenblatt) and Morris (David Sheinkopf), who serve as enforcers). The newsies are just kids; they don't even have the vote. Can Jack hold them together long enough to force acceptance of their demands?

With a wonderful cast of sympathetic individual boys including the cripple Crutchy (Marty Belafsky), cigar-smoking Racetrack Higgins (Max Casella), black Boots (Arvie Lowe, Jr.), Mush (Aaron Lohr), Snipeshooter (Matthew Fields), Specs (Mark David), and Pie Eater (David Sidoni), several lively dance numbers, and a great feel for the recreation of turn-of-the-century New York life, this musical drama deserved much better press than it got. Jack, turned cynical by a rough childhood, learns about the potential of "what they call a family" and even finds romance with the Jacobs's sister Sarah (Ele Keats), and there are moments of suspense and even high action, such as when Spot Conlon (Gabriel Damon), the boss of the Brooklyn newsies, brings his tribe into the fray in the very nick of time. The soundtrack Newsies is worth your time too. You can buy Cheap Newsies (Collector's Edition) online fast and easy, Shop Today!.

Prince & The Pauper

Prince & The Pauper Sale

Buy Prince & The Pauper. In a modern-day reworking of Mark Twain's classic story, Tom Canty, an average kid living with his grandfather, longs to be an actor. Due to his outlandish behavior, and his tendency to quote lines from his favorite plays, Tom is a bit misunderstood by his schoolmates as well as his grandfather. Tom's best friend and mentor, Miles, is an over-the-hill, retired actor (Vincent Spano) who lives in the neighborhood. Although Miles has his own struggles, he tries to be supportive and lead Tom down the right path. One afternoon, Tom sneaks onto the set of Teen Spy to meet his hero, Eddie Tudor. Eddie Tudor, the famous (and infamously spoiled) child star of Teen Spy, is making everyone's life difficult on set. Little does Eddie know, this demanding behavior is about to get him fired. The two boys switch clothes, and lives, for the afternoon. But when the production suddenly moves to Miami, the boys are stuck in their assumed identities. As both boys struggle to get back to their lives, everyone involved learns a thing or two about being a family.

Special Price at Amazon Click to See Price

Self-confidence is a healthy virtue, but "Teen Spy" star Eddie Tudor (Cole Sprouse) is so full of himself that he's becoming impossible to work with and is verging on being fired from the movie he's staring in. Enter devoted fan Tom Canty (Dylan Sprouse) who sneaks onto the movie lot in hopes of meeting his favorite star. Turns out that Tom just happens to look exactly like Eddie, so Eddie takes advantage of the moment and switches clothes and identities with the young fan in hopes of gaining a free afternoon. What Eddie gets is an eye-opening look at how a "normal" kid lives and the special challenges of Tom's life with his Grandfather. Tom, on the other hand, gets a chance to fulfill his life-long dream of acting in a movie--thing is, it's a lot more work than he ever imagined. Of course, almost no one involved in either young man's life believes that the two boys have switched places, which makes things especially complicated when the filming location changes unexpectedly from Palm Beach to Miami and Tom is whisked away from his hometown leaving Eddie behind. Through interacting with one another's families, friends, and co-workers, both boys learn important lessons about humility, appreciating what they have, and valuing the people closest to them. This contemporary version of a Mark Twain classic will appeal to kids ages 5 and older and stars Kay Panabaker, Vincent Spano, Dedee Pfeiffer, Ed Lauter, and Sally Kellerman. --Tami Horiuchi

Oliver and Company (20th Anniversary Edition)

Oliver and Company (20th Anniversary Edition) Sale

Buy Oliver and Company (20th Anniversary Edition). A timeless classic inspired by Charles Dickens' novel Oliver Twist, Oliver & Company is a fun-filled, action-packed musical adventure voiced and sung by one of the most talented casts in Disney history!
The film artfully blends lovable characters, cool songs, and action-packed adventure into a contemporary classic. Disney's hip, high-energy tale begins in the concrete canyons of New York City, where Oliver, an adorable orphaned kitten, is befriended by Dodger, a carefree mutt with a certain street savoir faire. The mischievous little cat is welcomed by Dodger's pack of pickpocket pooches, including dim-witted Einstein, ravishing Rita, and live-wire Tito. This ragtag family of misfits runs into trouble when the evil mastermind Sykes -- aided by his two daunting Dobermans -- schemes to kidnap the lonely little rich girl who just adopted Oliver! It's up to the brave kitten and his newfound friends to race to the rescue in an electrifying chase through the city's subway system. Boasting five outstanding original songs and the musical talents of Billy Joel, Bette Midler, and Huey Lewis -- and overflowing with brilliant animation, Oliver & Company is a modern masterpiece.

Based on Charles Dickens' "Oliver Twist," Disney's Oliver and Company was one of the first animated features to incorporate computer images with traditional hand-drawn animation and features the music and voice talents of pop-music giants like Billy Joel, Huey Lewis, and Bette Midler. A traditional story set in the modern world, Oliver and Company is the story of a stray kitten who wanders the streets of New York in search of a loving family. When Oliver encounters a street-wise dog named Dodger, the dog begins to teach him about life in the big city and takes him home to his family of street dogs and their master Fagan. Fagan and his dogs Dodger, Tito, Einstein, Francis, and Rita must often resort to thievery just to survive and during a particularly daring caper, Oliver gets separated from the other dogs and winds up meeting Jenny, a young rich girl with a big heart. As Oliver revels in Jenny's affection and begins to feel like part of her family, the dogs set out to rescue Oliver thinking he's been kidnapped. Eventually both Oliver and Jenny end up in grave danger and the only way Fagan and his dogs can save them is by doing what's right. As fresh on its 20th anniversary as it was when it premiered in 1988, this time-tested film appeals to children and adults of all ages. Bonus features include the Mickey Mouse and Pluto shorts "Lend a Paw" and "Puss Café" as well as a 5-1/2-minute making of featurette in which director George Scribner and animator Glen Kean describe the then brand new technique of blending computer and hand-drawn animation. Also included are sing-along versions of "Why Should I Worry? and "Streets of Gold," an interactive game, fun film facts, and an Oliver and Company scrapbook featuring concept art, storyboards, and publicity materials. --Tami Horiuchi

Oliver and Company (20th Anniversary Edition) Review

Oliver (Joey Lawrence) is an orange kitten, one of a litter of eight, whose siblings have all been adopted out of a big box on a Manhattan street, leaving him alone. When a sudden thunderstorm destroys the box and sets Oliver adrift alone on the streets, he's bewildered and frightened--and, very soon, hungry. A carefree terrier named Dodger (Billy Joel) offers to share some sausages with him if he'll help to steal them, then takes off with the booty, and a furious Oliver trails him, not without difficulty, to his hideout, a moldering barge anchored under a decrept pier which he shares with a human named Fagin (Dom DeLuise) and four other dogs--hyper Chichuahua Tito (Cheech Marin), aging and easygoing Great Dane Einstein (Richard Mulligan), cultured bulldog Francis (Roscoe Lee Browne), and leggy poodle-mix Rita (Sheryl Lee Ralph). Fagin has borrowed money from Bill Sykes (Robert Loggia), who is pressuring him to pay it back, and when Sykes visits the barge to demand his dough and Oliver rakes one of his Dobermans (Torean Blacque, Carl Weintraub) across the nose, Fagin ("That took guts!") and the dogs are impressed and "adopt" him into the gang. Next day, trying to help Fagin and the dogs find a way to pay back his debt, Oliver is accidentally trapped in a limousine, where he meets Jenny (Natalie Gregory), a little uptown rich girl who falls in love with him immediately, takes him home with her, gets him a collar and tag and a silver dish engraved with his name, plays with him in Central Park and lets him sleep in her bed. When the dogs, fearing he's in trouble, innocently "rescue" him, he's devastated--all he ever wanted was a home and someone to love him. But when Fagin tries to extort a ransom for him from Jenny, and she then falls into Sykes's hands, it's up to Oliver, Fagin, and the dogs--including Jenny's parents' spoiled diva of a champion poodle, Georgette (Bette Midler)--to save the day.

Based loosely on Dickens's Oliver Twist, this movie will have viewers who are familiar with the book (like me) making interested connections between the original and the adaptation (Fagin, for example, is not Dickens's sinister Jew but a rather buffoonish street person). It's rather short on music, but Joel's strutting "Why Should I Worry?" and Gregory's gentle "Good Company" are high points. Each animal is a distinct individual with a personality of his own. And when "Oliver and Company" set out to rescue Jenny, it becomes a wild thrill ride through the loan-shark's hideout and across a railroad bridge. It also has things to say about friendship, honesty, love, and finding your proper place in life. A sweet and charming film for cat- and dog-lovers alike. Bratz - Rock Angelz Sale

Buy Bratz - Rock Angelz. There's more girl power, cool fashion, and great music when the Bratz girls start their own teen magazine and go to London to become the Rock Angelz band! See them like never before in this feature length, CGI animated film.

Special Price at Amazon Click to See Price

The super stylin’ Bratz are multicultural dolls with ultra-shiny hair, almond-shaped eyes, and enviably trim figures. Rock Angelz begins when Jade gets a job as an intern for Burdine Maxwell (Just Shoot Me's Wendy Malick), the evil stepmother-like editor of Your Thing. After she gets fired--through no fault of her own--Jade joins Yasmin, Cloe, and Sasha to start their own magazine. Along the way, they travel to London and form a band. The Bratz have even more of a "passion for fashion" than the classic (if less hip) Barbie and their new careers allow for some scorchin' wardrobe changes in this bouncy musical (CD sold separately). There isn't much substance to Rock Angelz, but the pace is brisk, the computer-generated look is vibrant--like Pixar animation crossed with Teen Vogue. The Bratz are joined on their adventures by the happy-go-lucky Bratz Boyz Dylan and Eitan. (Ages 7 to 12) --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Bratz - Rock Angelz Review

well,I was reading some of the reports, and I happend to see some reports talked about how bratz are ugly and etc...Well,how I figuired this out is that most of these people that are saying these things, has never seen the movie their selfs. So everyone that DOESN'T like bratz, but doesn't have a clue about this movie and is geeting their ideas from other reports,DON'T.Because most people came to see what other people that have SEEN the movie think about it and if they really should by it or not.One day I came to see the bratz rock angelz doll for x-mas and my chin dropped; Some kids were having a argument with an adult, about the lady saying Bratz are hookers just by the way they dress.Well she said something about her daughter dressing like them and thinking its cool. The way I see it is people have a problem with everything they are not so used to.An adult told me that when barbie was invented at first people said she was too sensual because of her body. Now barbie's a hit.The next thing you now bratz are going to be everywhere just like barbie was.I hope my report helped you on something.

102 Dalmatians Sale

Buy 102 Dalmatians. UPC:786936768978
DESCRIPTION:Get ready for outrageous fun in Disney s 102 Dalmatians. It s a hilarious adventure, starring the audacious Oddball, the spotless Dalmatian puppy on search for her rightful spots, and Waddlesworth, the wisecracking, delusional macaw who thinks he s a Rottweiler. Barking mad, this unlikely duo leads a posse of puppies on a mission to outfox the wildly wicked, ever-scheming Cruella De Vil (Glenn Close). Filled with chases, close calls, hilarious antics and thrilling escapes all the way from London through the streets of Paris and a Parisian bakery this adventure-packed tale is wacky good fun your entire family will want to howl over again and again. END

Special Price at Amazon Click to See Price

Don't be fooled by the title. Rather than 102, there are 4 reasons to like this sequel to the successful live-action remake of Disney's animated classic. There are the 101 spotted pooches, Glenn Close back in fine form as Cruella De Vil, Oddball--the spotless dalmation pup--and Waddlesworth, a parrot who thinks he's a rottweiler (and is voiced by Monty Python's Eric Idle). There are just as many reasons to be disappointed. Like most sequels, the story line is virtually a rewrite of the first, the secondary casting isn't as interesting, the dialogue merely serves to move the plot along, and the third act substitutes mean-spiritedness for comedy. After a period of rehabilitation, Cruella has returned to her old tricks. Once again, she simply must have a spotted coat and will go to any lengths to get ahold of the 102 dalmatians needed to make one with a hood. She sets her sights on the pups owned by her probation officer, Chloe (Alice Evans), and the owner of a local animal shelter, Kevin (Ioan Gruffudd of Horatio Hornblower). Her servant, Alonso (Tim McInnerny), and flamboyant furrier Monsieur Le Pelt (Gerard Depardieu, in one ridiculous outfit after another) are drafted to aid in her quest. It should come as no surprise that Chloe and Kevin fall in love, Oddball helps to save the day, and Cruella is defeated. Children should enjoy the animal high jinks, but adults are less likely to be enamored by this perfectly competent, but relatively charmless affair. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

102 Dalmatians Review

"102 Dalmatians" offers audiences more of one of the most wicked creatures in motion pictures, the outrageous and evil Cruella DeVille. Like the original movie, Glenn Close who plays Cruella, steals the film and this is not an easy task, what with the beautiful dogs, wonderful special effects, and great story. The film producers knew that to harbor Cruella in one film wasn't enough so a sequel was evident. In this outing Cruella is released from prison after being cured of her addiction to killing dogs to fulfill her fantasy of making a coat. However, it is only a matter of time before Cruella's evil ways start to emerge and she eventually resorts back to her old ways, but this time not only does she want a coat made out of dalmatian fur, but she also wants a hood. The movie is hilarious, funny, sad, and over the top, but most of all entertaining. "102 Dalmatinas" wasn't as successful as the original, but it became an even bigger hit thanks to the home video market. This DVD has many bonuses, among them a deleted scene called "Cruella's Release", a Behind-The-Scenes Featurette, and audio commentary by director Kevin Lima. The movie also has some beautiful costumes that Glenn Close wears. You can buy Cheap 102 Dalmatians online fast and easy, Shop Today!.

Ice Age - Super Cool Edition Sale

Buy Ice Age - Super Cool Edition. They came... they thawed... they conquered the hearts of audiences everywhere in the coolest animated adventure of all time! Heading south to avoid the bad case of global frostbite, a group of migrating misfit creatures embark on a hilarious quest to reunite a human baby with his tribe. Featuring an all-star voice cast, including Ray Romano, John Leguizamo and Denis Leary, ICE AGE is "a pure delight" (New York Daily News) for all ages!

Special Price at Amazon Click to See Price

Just as A Bug's Life was a computer-animated comedy inspired by Akira Kurosawa's The Seven Samurai, the funny and often enthralling Ice Age is a digital re-imagining of the Western Three Godfathers. The heroes of this unofficial remake (set 20,000 years ago, during the titular Paleolithic era) are a taciturn mastodon named Manfred (voiced by Ray Romano), an annoying sloth named Sid (John Leguizamo), and a duplicitous saber-toothed tiger, Diego (Denis Leary). The unlikely team encounters a dying, human mother who relinquishes her chirpy toddler to the care of these critters. Hoping, against all odds, to return the little guy to his migrating tribe, Manfred and his associates need to establish trust among themselves, not an easy thing in a harsh world of predators, prey, and pushy glaciers. Audiences that have become accustomed to the rounded, polished, storybook look of Pixar's house brand of computer animation (Monsters, Inc.) will find the blunt edges and chilly brilliance of Ice Age--evoking the harsh, dangerous environment of a frozen world--a wholly different, and equally pleasing, trip. Recommended for ages 4 and up. --Tom Keogh

Ice Age - Super Cool Edition Review

Friendship, loyalty...danger, adventure...love, family; these are all just some of the many themes presented in delightful form in this crowd pleasing animated feature staring some prehistoric creatures.

With the vocal talents of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo (perfectly cast as the awkward sloth), Denis Leary and minor moments with Jack Black and Cedric the Entertainer, `Ice Age' has the comedic talent to back up its premise. The film tells the story of a lonely mammoth named Manfred. With the rest of civilization (or animal-kind) heading south, Manfred finds himself working against nature (as is his nature) until he meets an obnoxious creature named Sid who, through a series of events, changes Manfred's course. They soon encounter a dying human mother who has just been attached (along with her village) by some dastardly saber-toothed tigers. Before she expires, this human hands off her child to the unlikely pair who then make it their goal to return the child to his tribe. Before they can make any progress, they are accosted by Diego, one of the saber-toothed tigers. Scheming to get the child for himself (and his pack) he pretends to have the child's best interest at heart, and accompanies Manfred and Sid on their journey to find the humans.

That's pretty much the movie in a nutshell.

What I loved so much about this film is that it doesn't beat you over with sentiment and poignancy, but it subtly wraps those important themes around endless scenes of warm hearted comedy. The film is just really, really funny. The sequences never seem to be lacking, whether it be physical comedy or witty intellect or even slapstick child-like comedy. The film perfectly fuses the three variations of comedic delivery into a nicely balanced feature film.

And who doesn't think that Scrat is like the best animated character of all time?

In the end I am more than pleased with this film. It is not the best animated film of all time, but it deserves more respect than I think it garners. It is nice to see that more animated films are carrying weightier messages and delivering strongly, and I applaud Pixar for taking the lead in adding depth to a genre that is all too often disregarded as `childsplay' (I am at fault of this very act of blasphemy in the past), but we don't want to forget that the heart of the animated feature lies in the smile plastered on our son or daughter's face, and it is films like `Ice Age' that bring those smiles in spades. CHILD DEVELOPMENT: The First Two Years Review

With the many obligations in parents' daily lives, plus so many short- and long-term decisions to make, moms and dads can become confused, short-tempered, and completely stessed out. And that leads to feelings of anxiety, guilt and incompetence. This DVD Video Guide is supportive and informative without talking down to you and helped give me the confidence I was looking for to face some of the common challenges that arise in the first 2 years. The information is clearly presented and is organized into the following developmental periods: 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-12 months and 12-24 months. For the next age group...toddlers-preschoolers (ages 2, 3, 4 and 5), I highly recommend a small pocket guide called THE POCKET PARENT offering hundreds of sanity saving suggestions to try. Set up as a quick-read A-Z guide...it covers every challenging behavior you can think of such as anger, bad words, biting, hitting, the gimmes, morning crazies, tantrums, bedtime and mealtime refusals, separation anxiety and whining. CHILD DEVELOPMENT: The First 2 Years and THE POCKET PARENT are supportive easy reference guides for the home or daycare setting to revisit again and again. Pocoyo: Meet Pocoyo Review

I was fortunate to meet Pocoyo and his friends on our local PBS station! I thankfully DVR'd a few episodes so we could have it on demand before it was replaced by a show that doesn't capture my little ones attention.

All the reviews I've read are spot on! This is a very well done show. Cheers to Spain and it's creators!

I purchased some UK videos off eBay at a very high cost as they were being shipped from Singapore to the States. I'm glad to know I can purchase through Amazon for less cost.

If you have any doubts of ordering, view some of the Pocoyo's on YouTube and make your decision from there. Like many of us reviewing, once purchased, you'll only wish Pocoyo was more popularly known/televised. You can buy Cheap Pocoyo: Meet Pocoyo online fast and easy, Shop Today!.

All About Building / All About Lumberjacks Review

my son has been in love with this, and other hard hat harry dvd's, from age 2-3. I am amazed that he wants to watch how buildings are made, but he requests this show often. It's got entertainment but it also is actually about how to build a house, using adult terminology and concepts, what I would have thought was too advanced for him. I think it's great. Santa Claus Is Comin to Town (Full) Sale

Buy Santa Claus Is Comin to Town (Full). Where does Santa’s suit come from? Why does he slide down the chimney? Why does he live at the North Pole? The answers to all these questions and the origins of our favorite holiday traditions are revealed in this delightful classic about Kris Kringle, the world’s most famous gift giver.

Special Price at Amazon Click to See Price

This 53-minute, 1970 animated film may be the most delightful of those sundry, stop-motion animated Christmas perennials that show up on television during the holidays. The clay animation production, boasting a wonderful musical score and art direction that occasionally underscores the flower-power era in which it was born, tells the story of Santa's origins, in which Kris Kringle decides to get toys into the hands of poor children in gloomy Sombertown. Charmingly narrated by Fred Astaire and featuring voices by Mickey Rooney and Keenan Wynn, Santa Claus Is Coming to Town presents a nice bridge between two generations of entertainment, the classic and the hip. --Tom Keogh

Santa Claus Is Comin to Town (Full) Review

I love how all of these Rankin/Bass classics from the 60s and 70s get classic old Hollywood and Broadway stars to provide voice talents; lends a certain seriousness to the occasion. Here we have Fred Astaire narrating and singing a couple of songs in this 1970 stop-motion retelling of the origins of Santa Claus. Fred's a mailman delivering letters from kids to Santa, and he stops to answer some questions in the charming opening credits sequence which quotes most of the musical themes from the 50 minute TV special, first broadcast when I was 5. Santa was an orphan left on the doorstep of the mean Burgermeister Meisterburger (I still love that name) in Sombretown (ok that's a little corny) with merely the word "Claus" on a chain around his neck. The Burgermeister is a mean old dude and doesn't want him, and through mysterious, fortuitous circumstances he ends up with the Kringle elves in the Mountains of the Whispering Winds. He grows up learning to make toys, befriends all the animals of the forest, and goes back to Sombretown to give toys to the kids - but is met by the Burgermeister's opposition. Along the way the reasons for the red suit, the flying reindeer, the belly laugh, etc, are all explained, with the voices of kids breaking into Astaire's narration at times to ask him to verify that this was, in fact, how it happened. Kinda cool even for this adult.

This was along with RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER my favorite holiday special as a kid, though it has faded for me somewhat over the years; I guess I remember the romance between Santa and schoolteacher Jessica (Mrs Claus eventually, of course) as more mawkish and sappy than it was, and I'd forgotten that the fairly dreadful "My World is Beginning Today" is full of cool 60s hippie/flower people imagery. The early parts of the story are really fairly dark and bleak, and it's interesting that, though the Burgermeister has a moment where he harks back to childhood, he never reforms and we leave him still villainous, like Potter in IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE. The story - original to this film I think - seems a bit influenced by L. Frank Baum's "The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus" in the pagan/natural nature of Santa as we see him early on; but at the end a specifically Christian element enters the picture. Apart from the love song I already mentioned, the rest of the music is pretty good, with "Put One Foot In Front of the Other" probably the most memorable; it still gives me a lump in my throat.

In addition to Astaire, the voice talents include Keenan Wynn as Winter, the magician who rules the mountains and tries to stop Claus but is quickly befriended by him; professional voice actor Paul Frees as the Burgermeister and others; and Mickey Rooney as Kringle/Santa Claus, a role he would repeat in THE YEAR WITHOUT A SANTA CLAUS. All are very solid, especially Wynn, an underrated actor and a great vocal talent. Overall this was definitely more fun than I remembered it from my last viewing, probably a decade ago - though RUDOLPH I suspect will always rule my inner child's heart. Scooby-Doo [Blu-ray]

Scooby-Doo [Blu-ray] Sale

Buy Scooby-Doo [Blu-ray]. Zoinks! Two years after a clash of egos forced Mystery Inc. to close it's doors, Scooby-Doo and his clever crime-solving cohorts Fred (FREDDIE PRINZE JR.), Daphne (SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR), Shaggy (MATTHEW LILLARD) and Velma (LINDA CARDELLINI) are individually summoned to Spooky Island to investigate a series of paranormal incidents at the ultra-hip Spring Break hot spot. Concerned that his frightfully popular resort might truly be haunted, Spooky Island owner Emile Mondavarious (ROWAN ATKINSON) tries to reunite those notoriously meddling detectives to solve the mystery before his supernatural secret scares away the college crowds. Scooby and the gang will have to overcome their personal differences and forget everything they think they know about fake ghouls and phony creatures to crack the case, save themselves and possibly...the world! Ruh-roh!

"I would've gotten away with it if weren't for you meddling kids!" Equal parts remake and spoof, this tongue-in-cheek live-action resurrection finds the old Saturday-morning-cartoon gang reunited to investigate the zombie teens of a haunted amusement park. Frantic action and big-screen special effects stand in for logic, but for a while it makes for a spirited send-up. Freddie Prinze Jr., under a blond hairdo and an ascot, turns Fred into a preening pretty boy, and Sarah Michelle Gellar plays with her own Buffy image as eternal damsel-in-distress Daphne (in magenta mini-dress and maxi-boots, no less), but this show belongs to gangly Matthew Lillard, who is the adenoidal beatnik Shaggy. His loyal-to-the-end friendship with the computer-animated Scooby-Doo is the most convincing relationship in the whole two-dimensional goof. Some of the supernatural nasties may be scary for young kids and the humor careens from winking self-awareness to Scooby doo-doo gags, but otherwise this is as harmless as a Saturday-morning chapter and as substantial as a Scooby snack. --Sean Axmaker

Scooby-Doo [Blu-ray] Review

This movie totally rocks! I've always loved Scooby-Doo since i was a kid (I'm 21 now) and I remembered watching the original Scooby-Doo Where Are You episodes, The Scooby-Doo movies, The Scooby and Scrappy-Doo show, A Pup Named Scooby Doo (which I absolutely loved!) and the recent animated movies. Oh, plus What's New Scooby Doo! I remember, when I first heard of the release of this movie in 2002, I was really excited! One of everyone's favorite cartoon been brought to life! I was even more excited to hear that Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. would be the leads in the movie as Daphne and Fred. Their previous movies were mostly really cool, and neither of them are bad on the eye (they're both GORGEOUS!). When I saw the movie, I was blown away! This movie was PERFECT! Really fun and funny, action-packed, filled with jokes and also pretty scary. That was even more than I really expected. WAY MORE!

The CGI Scooby was top-notch (making him look like a real dog, making him cartoony and funny at the same time and leaving him intact as the actual cartoon must've been really hard, BUT THEY PULLED IT OFF 100%

The characters, Shaggy, Daphne, Fred and Velma, played by Matthew Lillard, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Linda Cardellini were dead-on their cartoon counterparts. To me, this cast was perfect, they really felt like a group of friends (well, Sarah and Freddie were engaged during this [and they have such chemistry!] and Matthew had appeared with Freddie in other flicks and are really good friends). I think this cast actually made me like the characters even more. Matthew Lillard IS Shaggy, no questions. Linda Cardellini IS Velma (and she even made her quite sexy) Freddie Prinze Jr. IS SO Fred (quite funny performance by the way). But Sarah Michelle Gellar completely blowed me away! She made Daphne so much better than the actual cartoon character. That ain't an easy feat. I liked how she gave Daphne that edge and spunk, while still looking completely stunning in 6'' inch high pink go-go boots.

Everything in this movie was REALLY WELL MADE. The CGI effects, the sets (HUGE and IMPRESSIVE), the costumes (I LOVE how they made Mystery Inc. look, they seemed cooler, more modern, but still retaining their cartoonish charm...

I really can't say enough of this movie! I LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT IT! I saw it in theaters, bought it on VHS, then DVD, seen it like 5+ times and still love it! I can't wait to own it on Blu-Ray and see how it looks!

This movie has everything= Cartoon mega-hit brought to life even better than the original, FUNNY, WITTY, COLORFUL, ACTION-PACKED, GREAT CHARACTERS and PERSONALIZATION, HORROR and so MUCH MORE!! That's SCOOBY DOO! Gotta love it! You can buy Cheap Scooby-Doo [Blu-ray] online fast and easy, Shop Today!.

Johnny Belinda Sale

Buy Johnny Belinda. Life is hard on MacDonald farm in stony, windswept Nova Scotia - and harder for young Belinda, a deaf mute whose affliction has been confused with mental deficiency. Then the town's new doctor takes an interest in helping her break out of her silent prison. Jane Wyman won the Best Actress Academy Award for her sensitive portrayal of Belinda, capturing the girl's affecting isolation, awakening desire to learn and ultimate triumph. Directed by Jean Negulesco and co-starring Lew Ayres, Charles Bickford and Agnes Moorehead (all four Oscar nominees* for their fine work), Johnny Belinda (nominated for a total 11 Oscars including Best Picture) blends atmosphere, nuance and high drama into a heartbreaking classic.

Special Price at Amazon Click to See Price

Jane Wyman won a Best Actress Oscar for her strong performance in this touching drama of a deaf-mute girl (Wyman) and a doctor (Lew Ayres) who works closely with her. The story (based on Elmer Harris's play) seems intent on dumping one grievance after another onto the poor character, from rape to community pressure to give up the resultant baby, plus a terrible loss sustained somewhere in there as well. But Wyman and director Jean Negulesco manage to make the film more than the sum of its perils, and the texture and atmosphere of the town is particularly effective. --Tom Keogh

Johnny Belinda Review

This is a great storytelling and movie-making rolled into one and I can see why it was up for so many Academy Awards in its day (when they rewarded the best movies.)

Jane Wyman seems to get the most attention here but I was totally impressed not only with her but all the actors, the director and the photographer. All excelled in this film, I thought - a great effort all-around.

Wyman and Lew Ayers were terrific in the leads, playing endearing characters who were easy to become involved with and root for in this story. Wyman, like Dorothy McGuire in "The Spiral Staircase" (1945) and Alan Arkin in "The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter" (1968), plays a deaf mute effectively with haunting, expressive facial features. I hope people don't overlook Ayers' extremely warm performance as the doctor who truly cares for this woman. Ayers plays a very decent man and does it with a lot of dignity.

Charles Bickford was powerful, too, as Belinda's father and ditto for the always-entertaining Agnes Moorhead, playing Belinda's sister. I can't leave out the "villains," either: Stephen McNally, who really looks his part, and his reluctant bride Jan Sterling, an underrated classic-era actress.

Jean Negulesco's direction provided numerous interesting low and high-angle camera shots and cinematographer Ted McCord made the most of it, including some great facial closeups. To be honest, I am not familiar with either of these two names but I was very impressed with their work here. Oh.....having Max Steiner doing the music didn't hurt, either!

The film gets a little melodramatic at times but it's never overdone. The story flows nicely. No scene - pleasant or unpleasant - overstays its welcome. You get a cohesive blend of heartfelt sentiment, romance, drama and suspense.

In addition, the DVD transfer of this film is magnificent. I would like to have seen some behind-the-scenes features with the disc, but the film was so good I am not complaining. You can buy Cheap Johnny Belinda online fast and easy, Shop Today!.

Teen pop music stars Aly and AJ make their movie debut as two rich and very spoiled teenage girls who experience a radical change in perspective in the Disney Channel original movie Cow Belles. Courtney (Amanda Michalka) and Taylor Callum (Alyson Michalka) have been well provided for by their dairy owning father Reed (Jack Coleman), but have become obsessed with fashion and societal image and lack compassion for anyone but themselves. When the girls' selfish absorption gets out of hand and leads to a kitchen fire, their father demands that they spend the summer working in the company dairy, hoping to instill in them a sense of responsibility and duty. The initially resentful girls quickly find themselves in a very uncomfortable predicament when the dairy unexpectedly runs out of funds while their father is out of the country. Hopelessly at odds with one another regarding the appropriate action and even their own levels of responsibility, the sisters are forced to grow up in a hurry and end up learning more about compassion and responsibility than their father could have ever imagined. Aly and AJ deliver a believable portrayal of stereotypical spoiled rich girls and their hit song "On the Ride" serves as appropriate background music during one scene of the movie. DVD extras include an exclusive alternate ending; a brief behind the scenes featurette in which Aly and AJ comment on their characters, wardrobes and stunts; and two music videos: "On the Ride" and "Rush." (Ages 7 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

Grigori Kozintsev's King Lear

Grigori Kozintsev's King Lear Sale

Buy Grigori Kozintsev's King Lear. Hailed as one of the best adaptations of this Shakespearean tragedy, Grigori Kozintsev’s KING LEAR is a striking epic interpretation based on a translation by novelist Boris Pasternak and driven by a stirring score by composer Dmitri Shostakovich. Kozintsev transposed the setting to a sparse landscape of moors and marshes, which provides an eerie backdrop to the bare castles and roaming bands of ragged, destitute wanderers. Thin, frail Yuri Yarvet’s unique interpretation of the title role, in which he focuses on the king’s suffering and pain, was internationally acclaimed. Kozintsev, a peer of Eisenstein’s who worked well into the 1960s, was a master of cinematic technique who finally achieved recognition at the end of his career for his stunning interpretations of Shakespeare. According to film historian Richard Dyer: "Paradoxically, the two most powerful films of Shakespeare plays [Hamlet and King Lear] were made not in Great Britain but in the Soviet Union." (Boston Globe)

Grigori Kozintsev's King Lear Review

King Lear is a tragedy that had to appeal to Soviet film-makers. It is dense and extreme. A whole world is destroyed in a couple of years because of an unwise decision of the king doubled with an unwise blindness about the real feelings of his daughters. That's dramatic and that appeals to the good old Russian soul. But there is in this play by Shakespeare what we find in all the tragedies of that author: a full cycle of elimination of all the participants in the drama and the future falls then in the hands of some nearly outsider that comes back by chance and manages to survive through the swords and the poison that runs freely in the wine. The new leader appointed by fate is there to clean up the mess, bury the dead and then try to rebuild some kind of a human world. That too can but attract the Soviet mind of old for whom change can only come through a tabula rasa, a full elimination of the past and change can only the result of an effort to reconstruct after the violent destruction of what was. What's more there is in this play a general structure that can only please a dialectic mind: the destruction comes from inside and the third party that comes from outside is defeated by the two parties that are fighting one against the other inside and unite just long enough to defeat the third sister and her husband. But this film is a lot more interesting than just that story we know by heart. It is the phenomenal acting of the actors in a setting that wants to recreate the dreary drab misery of the ninth century and the horror of a constant civil war that ensues the departure of the king. The war does not even aims at looting but just at destroying everything and everybody. The vision is so extreme that we wonder if it is realistic or just a nightmare in the director's mind. In fact it is beautiful and the king is really crazy and his clown is the most fascinating suffering toy I have ever seen in that part. His job is to annoy with truth in order to become the outlet of the anger of others who will make him suffer to regain some peace of mind. And in this case he does not even pretend to be joyful, he is suffering all along and showing it because that is exactly why he is there and that is why other people are appealed to him, to make him suffer if they can but let him live for more.

You can chalk it up to good timing and a heavy dose of video-game synergy, but this 1990 hit remains the box-office champ of independent films, with a total gross of 5 million. Of course the Turtles, who hatched as comic book characters, are also the stars of a phenomenally successful Nintendo video game, so it was a given that the movie would be a hit with its target audience of rabid young video addicts. This is what comic books fans call "the origin story," in which we learn how a foursome of small turtles were mutated by a green radioactive goo and turned into human-sized turtle crime fighters. Their large rodent mentor, Splinter, teaches them to master the martial arts. They're also gifted pop musicians, by the way (think of them as amphibious Spice Guys), so they can rock the house while they're cracking a crime wave with the help of their cute friend and television reporter April O'Neil (Judith Hoag). The script is terrible, of course, but countless millions of children don't seem to care, as long as the Turtles keep ordering pizza and dispensing their wisecracking brand of justice. --Jeff Shannon

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Review

I remember going to see this one at the movies almost 20 years ago, the amount of people that lined up to see this film was huge, from the entrance door, to the other end street, I'll never forget that sight for as long as I live.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a damn good film, this will keep kids, adults and fans of the comic books hooked from start to finish.

The story kicks off with April O Neil's news report about the shocking rise of theft that's happing in New York City, but she knows that something big is going down involving A secret organization of ninja thieves known as The Foot, the rest is for you to watch if whoever reads this has never seen this before.

The characterisation in the film is very good and the cast portraying these characters where excellent I can't think of anything bad to say about it.
The humour in this movie was highly enjoyable and often funny, my favourite part in the film is where a Foot ninja is showing off his nunchuck skills to the turtles and Mikey out skills him which in turn gets the Foot ninjas p***ed off.

When the action kicks off, it's fast, fun and entertaining which is good to know, the music was skilfuly done and it sets the tone for some of the scenes in film.

In short TMNT is a fun, often funny and engageing film and the best one out of all 4 films. You can buy Cheap Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles online fast and easy, Shop Today!.
